Rain Water Harvesting System and New Parking Space inaugurated at Modi College
Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today inaugurated ‘Rain Water Harvesting System’ and ‘New Parking Space’ for the students at the campus under the series of initiatives by the college under Jal Shakti Jan Shakti Programme and ‘Swacch Bharat Mission’. These both systems were inaugurated by Smt. Poonamdeep Kaur, IAS, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Patiala. The inauguration was attended by Sh. Lal Vishvash, Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Patiala, Dr. Charanjit Singh, Deputy Director, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Patiala, Mr. Amandeep Sekhon, Programme Co-ordinator, Swacch Bharat Mission’ and Sh. Dalip Kumar, XEN, (Horticulture), Municipal Corporation, Patiala. College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. He said that water is life-line of human existence. He told that college is committed to preservation of eco-system and contributing in national development by investing and implementing different national ecological and development programmes initiated by Government of India. Dr. Manish Sharma presented a detailed report about the student sensitization about environment and implementation of solid waste management, recycling of the waste material, composting, preservation of fauna and flora and to make campus plastic free. Smt. Poonamdeep Kaur while addressing the students motivated them to make a bridge between the government and the general public. Emphasising the need for community participation to make ‘Clean Patiala: Green Patiala’ a success, she told that Municipal Corporation is committed to serve the people and to save our environment. Sh. Amandeep Sekhon, Programme co-ordinator said that ‘Swacch Bharat Mission’ is focused at eliminating open defecation by constructing household-owned and community owned toilets for attaining the sustainable development goal established by the UN in 2015. The stage was conducted by Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Dean, Life Sciences and vote of thanks was presented by Vice Principal Dr. Baljinder Kaur. The guests also visited the project sites and appreciated the college for these innovative systems of composting and solid waste segregation. All students and faculty members were present on the inauguration. A sapling was also planted at the new parking space.

ਸਥਾਨਿਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਲ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਜਨ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਅਤੇ ‘ਸਵੱਛ ਭਾਰਤ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ’ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੜੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ‘ਵਾਟਰ ਹਾਰਵੇਸਟਿੰਗ ਸਿਸਟਮ’ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਨਵੀਂ ਪਾਰਕਿੰਗ ਸਪੇਸ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਦੀ ਰਸਮ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਮਿਉਂਸਪਲ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਪੂਨਮਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਆਈ.ਏ.ਐਸ. ਨੇ ਅਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਲਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ, ਜੁਆਇੰਟ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ, ਮਿਉਂਸਪਲ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, ਡਾ. ਚਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਡਿਪਟੀ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਨ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਬੋਰਡ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਮਨਦੀਪ ਸੇਖੋਂ, ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ, ਸਵੱਛ ਭਾਰਤ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਦਲੀਪ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਐਕਸੀਅਨ (ਹਾਰਟੀਕਲਚਰ), ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਏ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ-ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਲਈ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਚਲਾਏ ਗਏ ਵੱਖੋ-ਵੱਖਰੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਪੱਖੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਤੱਤਪਰ ਹੈ। ਜੁਆਲੋਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਡਾ. ਮਨੀਸ਼ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਦੀ ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਸੋਲਿਡ ਵੇਸਟ ਮੈਨੇਜਮੈਂਟ, ਵੇਸਟ ਮੈਟੀਰੀਅਲ ਨੂੰ ਰੀਸਾਈਕਲ ਕਰਨਾ, ਖਾਦ ਬਣਾਉਣ, ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵ-ਜੰਤੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰਤ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਪੂਨਮਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਆਈ.ਏ.ਐਸ. ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ-ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਮ ਜਨਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਕਰ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਲ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਕੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਕਾਇਆ ਪਲਟ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਮਿਊਨਿਟੀ ਪਾਰਟੀਸਪੇਸ਼ਨ (ਜਨਤਾ ਦੀ ਭਾਗੀਦਾਰੀ) ਤੇ ਖਾਸ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮਿਉਂਸਪਲ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਸਨੀਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ‘ਗਰੀਨ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, ਕਲੀਨ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ’ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਵਚਨਬੱਧ ਹੈ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਮਨਦੀਪ ਸੇਖੋਂ, ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ, ਸਵੱਛ ਭਾਰਤ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ‘ਸਵੱਛ ਭਾਰਤ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ’ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਣ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਖੁੱਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਖਾਨਾ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਰੁਝਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਲ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਘਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਨਤਕ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਖਾਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਯੂਨਾਈਟਿਡ ਨੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ‘ਸਸਟੇਨੇਬਲ ਡਿਵੈਲਪਮੈਂਟ ਗੋਲ’ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਟੇਜ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਡਾ. ਅਸ਼ਵਨੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਡੀਨ, ਲਾਈਫ਼ ਸਾਇੰਸਿਜ਼ ਨੇ ਅਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਡਾ. ਬਲਜਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ, ਮੁਖੀ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਪੋਸਟ ਯੂਨਿਟਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਲਿਡ ਵੇਸਟ ਸੈਗਰੀਗੇਸ਼ਨ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਦਾ ਮੁਆਇਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਰਕਿੰਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੌਦਾ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਰਸਮ ਵੀ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਦਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲਿਆ।
